Sometimes everything just falls in line and goes so smoothly it amazes you. Well, that is exactly what happened from start to finish with this Queen of Hearts inspired photo shoot I had the opportunity to do.
From the very beginning, this photo shoot was a dream. I went to the thrift store to search for a dress and the very first store I went to, I made a bee line to the dresses and picked “the one”. It was exactly what I envisioned.
Then there was the crown. Every queen needs a crown! I decided to make one, so off to Pintrest I went for a little bit of inspiration. I pulled a few ideas from other creatives on the interwebs and came up with a very Wonderland inspired crown. I thought it turned out great, it really complemented the dress and the whole vibe I was looking for. The fact that I made it myself really made me even more proud to incorporate it into the photo shoot.
When Emily, the model I worked with (check her out on Instagram: @EmilyEmeraldImage) came over, she was pretty much camera ready. She nailed her makeup and hair. It was fantastic. The dress I got from the thrift store was one of those “I really hope this is the right size” kind of moments, and of course, it was! It fit her like a glove! I was so excited to see it all come together. She and I thought it would be cool to have a ribbon as a choker necklace to pull the outfit together so I brought out my box of ribbons. I was digging through, pulling out various red and black and found the perfect ribbon in the bottom of the box. It was like that ribbon was specifically made for that dress, even though I bought the ribbon over a year before this shoot was even thought of!
So when the costume was complete and we were ready to go shoot, it was time to think of the weather. The weather was the perfect photo shoot weather. It was cool and overcast. Beautiful photography weather. It seems counterintuitive, you’d think sunny weather would be better, however, when it’s overcast, it takes the shadows away and makes colors pop a little brighter.
So we headed over to Glenmere Park in Greeley, Colorado to get this photo shoot. Glenmere park in Greeley is one of my favorite places to shoot. It’s so versatile. The park was relatively empty that day too, which was another blessing as it was a Saturday!
